“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” John Keats

The truth behind the image is what you interpret it to be! Ekphrastic writing is the vivid, imaginative verbal description of visual art, acting as a verbal representation of visual representation. Originating from Greek rhetoric, it serves to amplify, interpret, or interrogate art—paintings, sculptures, or scenes—bridging the visual and literary arts to spark new meaning.

For this workshop, you are invited to bring along an image of art or beauty that inspires you (e.g., a painting, sculpture, architecture, murals, the natural world, or even your own art) to use as an ekphrastic writing prompt, or you may choose an image from postcards of artwork that will be provided. You may choose to write in poetry or in prose.
