Upcoming 5/16/26: Finding Memoir In Food – Workshop with Annette Januzzi Wick

  • Date: Saturday, May 16
  • Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm ET
  • Open to: All Gender, 16+
  • Location: WWfaC Building
  • Tuition: $39
  • Register For Free Reading

Food is a vessel into memory. Whether you come from a background of abundance or have struggled to make your way, we all ascribe different meanings to food, whether in our past, present and future lives. And, as renowned chef James Beard writes, “Food is our common ground, a universal experience,” providing us with a center as we seek commonalities among others.

In this workshop, we will reflect on our relationship and memories with the basest of needs—food—in its procurement, preparation, consumption, and service. In exploring the writings of others, we will use prompts to write poems, memoirs, essays, or recipes—the genre is your choice—about our lived experiences when we come to the table around food. And we will consider other ways to further those narratives about the food we consume and the art of serving or savoring a meal.

[CANCELLATION POLICY: Tuition is non-refundable. Tuition can be credited towards a future class if the student withdraws 14 days prior to the beginning of the start of the class and must be used within one (1) year of receipt. There is also no refund for individually missed classes.]

Annette Januzzi Wick is the author of I’ll Be in the Car and I’ll Have Some of Yours. With a focus on Italy and food, writing and connections, cities and memory, her work has appeared in Writers Digest, Creative Nonfiction, Edible Ohio Valley, Soapbox Media, Cincinnati Neighborhood Guidebook, Ovunque Siamo, Italian Americana, and numerous other publications. Born, raised and educated in northern Ohio, she’s made Cincinnati her home, though often yearns for Italy or Oregon (and yes, Cleveland). If you’re awake early enough, you might spot her out for morning walks in Over-the-Rhine. Something Italian is her latest memoir.
