Opinion/Column Writing with Matt Peiken from Opine Season
Tuesdays, August 11 & 18, 7-9pm

Anyone with an Internet connection can stand on a virtual soapbox. It takes intellect, creativity and a strong voice for your opinions to break through the clatter and influence the masses. Veteran print and entrepreneurial journalist Matt Peiken leads this two-part workshop into crafting op-eds and columns for print, broadcast or online publishing.

You'll learn how to conceive and frame your columns, discover your authentic voice, support your views with research and write with courage and conviction. We'll also cover ethics and producing accurate, truthful work. By the end of the second workshop, you'll have a piece you'll be proud to self-publish or pitch to other publications.

Peiken is the founding executive director and editor of Opine Season (opineseason.com), an online community opinion page in Cincinnati formally launching in September 2015. In 2013, Peiken developed the first, all-volunteer version of Opine Season, in Minnesota’s Twin Cities. The site attracted more than 250,000 page views, sparked numerous comment thread conversations and compelled other local media to take notice—all in just the four months of operation before he moved to Cincinnati to join the digital reporting staff of WCPO-TV. Opine Season is relaunching in Cincinnati under a nonprofit business model.
