The One-Legged Ballerina

Written by  Priscilla McMaster

She appeared last night in a dream—the one-legged ballerina—dancing the “Dance of Majestic Bliss”,
carried by the notes of life. She danced in solitude as she danced only for herself, unaware of worlds
beyond. It was a dance of triumph to warm the soul! Partnered by two ancient Sycamores, edges
blurred until they painted a single vision of enraptured oneness. Her skirts softly rustled the song of each
leaf, the secret of each bud, echoed in the celebration of the wind.

Soon the damaged appeared before her, lured by the message of hope, prophecied in each step, held by
the wisdom of the forest. Cautiously, they left their nursing homes, their hospitals, their sentences of
despair. They travelled from memories near and far. They journeyed through tunnels of loneliness and
darkness. The broken and weary arrived as if magnetized---some with missing limbs, some with aching
hearts, some with despondency and grief---all with yearning. Furtive glances hid their shame of lost
hope, their familiar hollowness.

She appeared last night in a dream—the one-legged ballerina—dancing the “Dance of Possibility”. It was
a dance of Divine Grace to lift the soul! She shone her example upon those who are less than what they
once were, inviting them to free their fullest Spirit, to choreograph their own dance of wholeness. In the
end, what we have to give is ourselves. Carrying the Light, she shared her spark of hope, reflecting how
much more they are now than what they once had been.
