What Is the FLA?
| |
|
A NOTE FROM MARY PIERCE BROSMER... The Feminist Leadership Academy (FLA) has grown out of my realization that many aspects of the Women Writing for (a) Change model inspire and support women's growth as leaders. The first and most important resource of both WWf(a)C and the FLA is membership in a body of becoming-conscious, truth-telling women. The FLA gathers women, and for the first time, men, committed to making their businesses, church communities, faculties, activist and other organizations healthier, more peaceful and life-encouraging. In the FLA training, participants learn and practice skills which translate to their professional work: - learning to facilitate teams which attend to process as a way of fostering productivity
- learning multiple ways of lifting up the creative and emotional resources of a group
- learning to integrate conflict as a creative resource
- learning to cultivate self-knowledge, authenticity, integrity and wisdom as sources of leadership.
The FLA is based on an understanding of women's history in both public and private spheres, and is grounded in much of the rich learning and research about women as leaders, about women's communities and spirituality made available to us because of second-wave feminism.
FLA learners are fostered within the tradition of the conscious feminine which I define as an energy of life and leadership available to both women and men, emphasizing such values as transparency, hospitality, ability to hold paradox, and a model of community which supports individual gifts, but not at the expense of societal or planetary well-being.
The Feminist Leadership Academy of Cincinnati is both a rigorous and supportive community encouraging each participant to explore growing edges, talents and vulnerabilities.
Academy graduates complete both a practicum and a major piece of writing exploring themes of the training.
