Luxuriance of Wildflowers - Finding Poetry and Words Beneath
Facilitator: Annette Januzzi Wick
Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Open to: All, ages 16 through adult
"Nothing had been disturbed; the luxuriance of the undergrowth is beyond description." ~Lucy Braun, 1935
Part of our Write Around The Corner series. Join writer Annette Januzzi Wick of Women Writing for (a) Change and the Lloyd Library staff in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Cincinnati Wildflower Society, exploring and capturing, through words, the rich history of wildflowers in Ohio, the work of Lucy Braun, a well-known Cincinnati naturalist from the 1800's, and the collection of books and photographs in the Lloyd Library.
During this three-hour workshop, participants will be given access to viewing rare works, including pressed flowers dating back to the 1850's, photographs taken throughout the course of the exhibit and Lucy Braun's body of work. Whether you are a gardener, a botanist, an artist or a writer, the surrounding landscape, similar to what one sees in the natural preserves of our home state, will provide inspiration to your written work.
Originally dedicated to the preservation of the work in pharmaceuticals of three Lloyd Brothers, the library contains rare collections on botany, nature, pharmaceuticals, medicine and visual arts.
Water and light snacks will be provided.
