RETURN TO MAIN YOUNG WOMEN'S PAGE

Young Women Writing for (a) Change provides writing programs for girls and young women in grades 4-college to help them write and speak with an authentic voice. Young women are supported in their writing through writing prompts, through conversations about writing and about being a young woman, and by participating in a “small group” of three or four peers where they can share their writing out loud and be heard. We engage young writers in a supportive writing community based upon acceptance and deep listening.

Goals are to help girls:

  • enhance self-esteem
  • build skills in creative self-expression
  • learn to receive and give honest support and encouragement,
  • develop skills in building and keeping community
  • seek and recognize role models who inspire creative life choices.

All YWWf(a)C programs are designed to help strengthen girls' authentic voices, their ability to "speak out" through writing and in direct interaction, and their faith in their own creative intelligence.

What We Will Do

  • Create a supportive community of writers

  • Write together and on our own

  • Share our writing and listen to others

  • Explore other modes of artistic expression

  • Read and discuss stories, articles and poems

Our Young Women Writing for (a) Change creative writing classes include summer week-long programs and 6 or 8-week programs held on weekends in the Fall and the Winter/Spring. All classes are held at our building – 6906 Plainfield Rd. – in the heart of Silverton.
