Sami Schalk was 13 years old when she walked into an after-school Young
Women Writing for (a) Change program. After her first experience, she
participated in Young Women Writing for (a) Change school-year and
summer week-long programs for seven years until her high school
graduation in 2004. In her own words, “After my sophomore year of
college at Miami University I had lost touch with who I was as a woman,
a poet, believer in change, I was no longer who I wanted to be and the
last place I could remember being true to myself was at Women Writing…”
