Young Women Writing for (a) Change (YWWC) cultivates communities where girls and teen-aged women can write and be heard. YWWC creative writing programs strengthen girls’ authentic voices and build emotional intelligence. YWWC classes are tuition based and held onsite at 6906 Plainfield Rd. Programs include five weeklong summer writing programs and two semester weekend programs.

Young Women’s Feminist Leadership Academy offers leadership training to young women who want to use writing to effect change in their communities. YWFLA engages young women in service learning with a three-fold approach: 1) developing a reflective writing practice; 2) belonging to a conscious “community of practice*”; 3) one-on-one mentoring with a faculty member. Mentors help participants design and facilitate their own Outreach Initiative programs—such as after-school writing circles at Kilgour Elementary School and Inner City Youth Opportunities tutoring program. The confidence young women gain empowers them to remain active members of their communities through service and leadership. (*Wheatley, Margaret. Finding Our Way: Leadership for an Uncertain Time. 2005.)

WWCF Outreach Initiatives WWCF takes its unique writing programs to schools, libraries, and community centers and throughout Greater Cincinnati. Since 2000 WWCF has collaborated with more than 63 organizations to offer creative writing programs off-site that result in individual and social change with Lighthouse Youth Services, the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter, Kennedy Heights Arts Center and Evergreen Retirement Community.

WWCF Scholarships WWCF also funds full and partial scholarships for girls and women to attend tuition-based writing programs. The program’s purpose is to reduce financial barriers preventing women and girls from participating in WWC communities, particularly related to race, culture, class and age.

The Podcast Edition of Women Writing for (a) Change broadcasts the words of women and girls to a listening audience around the world through the use of pod-casting technology and the internet to become stewards of our own telling. The program presents the voices of women, girls and men within our community and showcases the ways in which writing enriches both our personal and professional lives.
